Located in Northern Ecuador, Mompiche is an excellent left-hand point break that offers long barreling sections. The waves here can be heavy and break for up to 300 metres (984 feet) over a rock bottom. Locals are nice, but be respectful. This is one of the best waves in Ecuador and is set in a beautiful location.
What are the best surf conditions for Mompiche?
Mompiche gets good between chest high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard and then a step up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and usually has a crew on it (6/10). The best winds are from the southeast. The best swells are from the northwest or west, but a big southwest swell will also work. Mompiche works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 25°C (77°F) and 27°C (81°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
