Located in Northern Ecuador, Atacames is a big party town with a fun beach break right in the middle. The waves can barrel at low tides and will offer long rippable walls at higher ones. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom. Lots of nightlife around, have fun!
What are the best surf conditions for Atacames?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard, and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will get busy at times (5/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Northwest and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 27°C and 25°C (81°F to 77°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
