Located in Northern Ecuador, Punta Ballena is an excellent long left-hand point break that offers easygoing peelers ideal for longboarders. The waves here are easy to surf and break for up to 200 metres (656 feet) over a rock and sand bottom. It would be a longboarder’s paradise except for the consistency.
What are the best surf conditions for Punta Ballena?
Punta Ballena gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard most of the time and a shortboard if the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is not the most consistent (4/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the southeast. The best swells are from the northwest and west. Punta Ballena works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 25°C (77°F) and 27°C (81°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
