Located in Northern Ecuador, Pedernales is a fun stretch of beach break that offers hollow, powerful sections. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 50 metres (164 feet) over a sand bottom. Take a 4WD north for even more empty and quality peaks.
What are the best surf conditions for Pedarnales?
Pedernales gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the east. The best swells are from the northwest and west. Pedernales works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 25°C (77°F) and 27°C (81°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
