Located in Northern Ecuador, Canoa is a quality stretch of beach break that offers high-performance sections as well as hollow sections. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf and break for up to 50 metres (164 feet) over a sand bottom. The 16 kilometres (10 miles) of beach will keep the crowds down.
What are the best surf conditions for Canoa?
Canoa gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will get busy, but the length of the beach will spread out the crowd (5/10). The best winds are from the southeast. The best swells are from the northwest, southwest, and west. Canoa works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 25°C (77°F) and 27°C (81°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
