Located in Central Baja, Mexico, on the island of Isla Cedros, Playa Elefante is an alright beach break that offers some rippable peaks when the conditions line up. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. There’s not much on this island.
What are the best surf conditions for Playa Elefante?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard or step-up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Northwest and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
