Located in Central Baja, Mexico, Punta Maria is an excellent right point that fires on big West swells serving up long barrels. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 200 meters over a rock and sand bottom. There is camping in the bay if you’d like to stay close by.
What are the best surf conditions for Punta Maria?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller or a shortboard or step-up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will usually be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
