Located in Central Baja, Mexico, El Cardon is a fun right-point break that serves up some great rippable sections. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a rock and then sand bottom. Picks up more swell than other breaks in the area, a good indicator spot.
What are the best surf conditions for El Cardon?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller or a shortboard or step-up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (6/10) and will be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Northwest and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
