Located on the Garden Route in South Africa, Victoria Bay is a quality right-hand point break, one of the most well-known on the route. The wall is generally long and rippable, offering up many sections to whack. The beach break on the inside can also get nice and hollow. The waves here are challenging and break for up to 300 metres (984 ft) over a rock and sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Victoria Bay?
Gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will generally have at least a solid crew on it (7/10). The best winds are from the north. The best swells are from the south, southeast, and southwest. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in summer when water temperatures rise to 20°C (68°F). In the winter, a 3/2 might be best as temperatures drop to about 17°C (62.6°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
