Located on the Garden Route, South Africa, Buffalo Bay Beachbreak is a fun setup that works on mid-swells, delivering some rippable walls. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a rock and sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Buffalo Bay (Beachbreak)?
It gets good between chest-high and overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is good for all levels of surfer. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the West. The best swells are from the South and Southeast. It works best on a mid to high tide.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in summer when water temperatures rise to 20°C (68°F). In the winter, a 3/2 might be best as temps drop to about 17°C (63°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
