Located on the Garden Route in South Africa, Herolds Bay is a fun beach break that offers up some barreling peaks when the conditions line up. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 ft) over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Herolds Bay?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is good for all levels of surfer. The surf here is super consistent (9/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the north. The best swells are from the south and southeast. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in summer when water temperatures rise to 20°C (68°F). In the winter a 3/2 might be best as temps drop to about 17°C (62.6°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
