Located on the Garden Route in South Africa, Buffalo Bay Murpheys is a quality right-hand point break that offers up some barreling walls when the conditions line up. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 200 meters (656 feet) over a rock bottom. Sharks are very common here.
What are the best surf conditions for Buffalo Bay Murpheys?
It gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the South and Southeast. It works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in summer when water temperatures rise to 20°C (68°F). In the winter, a 3/2 might be best as temps drop to about 17°C (63°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
