Located in Guayas and Manabi, Ecuador, Rio Chico is a quality left-hand river mouth that offers up long rippable walls more days than not. The waves here can be challenging and will break for up to 200 meters (656 feet) over a sand bottom. You’ll have to pay a fee to the hotel which owns the land around the spot.
What are the best surf conditions for Rio Chico?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard, and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 27°C and 25°C (81°F to 77°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
