Located on the Big Island of Hawaii, Hapuna Pt is a fun beach break that offers up a decent barreling shore break when the swells pick up. The waves here can be a bit challenging to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. There is also a close by reef peak that offers up heavy barrels on a West swell.
What are the best surf conditions for Hapuna Pt?
Gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step-up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will get busy on the right day (5/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the North, Northwest, South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round here. Water temperatures don’t fall below 24 and range as high as 27. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
