Located on the big island of Hawaii, Bayans is a quality reef break that offers both lefts and rights perfect for the advanced barrel rider. The waves here can get pretty heavy and break for up to 200 meters over a coral reef. The rights tend to come alive in the summers, the longer lefts in the winter. This spot is a little localised, so don’t be surprised if there are no waves for outsiders on their first session.
What are the best surf conditions for Bayans?
Gets good between chest-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step-up here as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will generally have an intimidating crew (6/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, South, and West. Works on all tides but low is very dangerous if you fall.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 27 and 24. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
