Located on the Big Island of Hawaii, Pine Trees is a quality, exposed reef break that offers up both lefts and rights perfect for honing carves and hacks. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a coral reef. This spot is very consistent, but watch out for urchins.
What are the best surf conditions for Pine Trees?
Gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller, then a shortboard and a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (8/10) and will generally have a crew on it (7/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, or West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year round here. Water temperatures range from 27 to 24. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
