Located on the Big Island, Honls is a quality stretch of reef that offers up both lefts and rights that barrel over a shallow rocky bottom. The waves here are fast and hollow, breaking for up to 100 meters. Take care as locals run this spot and will pick off all the best waves, take your time and one might come to you.
What are the best surf conditions for Honls?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if small and a shortboard then step up as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will get very crowded (8/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Southwest. Works on a mid to high tide best.
Boardshorts or bikinis are good year-round here. Water temperatures range from 24 to 27 Celsius. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
