Located on the Big Island of Hawaii, Kahaluu is a collection of reefs off a beach that offer up good lefts and rights with performance sections. The waves here are not always easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over reef and sand. Inside of the reefs, there are some good beginner waves for learners.
What are the best surf conditions for Kahaluu?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard then a shortboard or step-up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer, inside good for beginners. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will get very crowded, this is a tourist area (8/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year round here. Water temperatures range from 27 to 24. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
