Located on the Big Island of Hawaii, Upolu is a quality left point that offers up slabby, powerful barrels when the right swells arrive. The waves here are heavy and break for up to 100 meters over a boulder-covered bottom. Needs light winds and often does not break well with the predominant winds.
What are the best surf conditions for Upolu?
Gets good between overhead and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard, step up, or gun. This break is suitable for advanced surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Southwest. The best swells are from the North. Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year round as water temperatures range between 27 ad 24. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
