Located in Northwest Maui, Windmills is a stretch of exposed north-facing reefs that offer up both lefts and rights great for carving and hacking into. The waves here can be challenging and break for up to 100 meters over coral reefs. The lefts are generally longer than the rights.
What are the best surf conditions for Windmills?
Gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step-up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will generally have enough space to be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the South or nonexistent. The best swells are from the North, Northeast, Northwest, and West. Worth a check on the smaller wind swells for sure. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round here. Water temperatures range from 27 to 24. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
