Located in Northwest Maui, Little Makaha is known to give a good impression of its namesake on Oahu. It is a long right-hand reef that has a point-breaking style of surf. It serves up long rippable walls mixed in with barrels and handles size well. The waves here can be challenging and break for up to 200 meters over a coral reef.
What are the best surf conditions for Little Makaha?
Gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard then a step-up as the size picks up here. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will always have a crew (7/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the North, Northwest, and West. Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round here. Water temperatures don’t fall below 24 and range as high as 27. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
