Located in West Ventura County, the Santa Clara Rivermouth is an excellent set-up that offers up symmetrical A-frames that barrel both left and right when the conditions line up. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a sand bottom. Pollution can be a problem as the bars get good after rain. Locals can have a bit of attitude. There is a decent beach break to the North and South as well.
What are the best surf conditions for Santa Clara Rivermouth?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here if small and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is decently consistent (6/10) and will generally have a crowd on it (8/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, or West. Works on all tides depending on the banks.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 here in the summer when water temps climb to 18 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
