Found in Ventura County in Southern California is Pitas Point. Pitas Point is a quality point break that peels across a boulder and sand bottom. There are a few distinctive breaks along the point ranging in difficulty level as well as quality. The waves here can be tricky to surf depending on where you take off but break for about 150 meters providing great sections for turns, hacks, or cruising.
What are the best surf conditions for Pitas Point?
Gets good between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend a longboard for the inner parts of the point and a shortboard for the more powerful sections. Pitas Point has something for everyone, beginners to advanced. The surf here is not consistent (3/10) and will have a crew when breaking (6/10), although there is room for everyone. The best winds come from the Northeast, the best swells are big and from the West, and the best tides are anything but very high.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to a balmy 18 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when temps drop to 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
