Located in Minho-Douro, Portugal, Fao is not a bad beach break that offers up decent waves for manoeuvres. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters in between the jetties that pile up sand bars. This is a good beginner’s spot.
What are the best surf conditions for Fao?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard when the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and can get busy on weekends and holidays (5/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 18 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temps drop to 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
