Located in Northwest Puerto Rico, Leeward Islands, Montones is a fun reef break that offers up some hollow sections when the conditions line up. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a coral reef. Has some wind protection.
What are the best surf conditions for Montones?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step-up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate to advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the South. The best swells are from the North, Northeast, and Northwest. Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 29 and 26. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
