Located on the Garden Route in South Africa, Witsand is a decent beach break that offers up some fun A-frames if the conditions line up. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Witsand?
It gets good between chest-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the South and Southeast. It works best on a mid to low-tide.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summers when water temperatures rise to 20°C (68°F). In the winters, a 3/2 is best when water temperatures drop to 17°C (63°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
