Located in Golfo de Nicoya, Costa Rica, Playa Coyote is a quality right-hand point that serves up some rippable sections. The waves here are challenging and break for up to 200 meters over a sand bottom. There are some beach break options to the North as well. If you’d like to drive North from here you’ll need a very good 4WD, but empty surf awaits.
What are the best surf conditions for Playa Coyote?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will usually have a crew on it (6/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 29 and 28. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
