Located in Golfo de Nicoya, Costa Rica, Boca Barranca is an excellent river mouth that offers up a long and perfect peeling left-hander. The waves here are best for cruising and ripping into, and it has been chosen as the site of longboard competitions in the past. The waves are easy to surf and break for up to 300 meters over a rock and sand bottom. Just watch out for pollution.
What are the best surf conditions for Boca Barranca?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. The surf here is not the most consistent (4/10) and will always have a crew on it (7/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the South and Southwest. Works best on a low to mid-tide.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 29 and 28. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
