Located in Golfo de Nicoya, Costa Rica, Puerto Caldera is a quality jetty wedge that offers up a steep, sucky barreling ride. The waves here are challenging and break for 50 meters over a rock and sand bottom. Needs some size in the swell to break.
What are the best surf conditions for Puerto Caldera?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf is fairly consistent (6/10) and will usually have a crew on it (6/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the South or Southwest. Works on a low to mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year round as water temperatures range between 29 and 28. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
