Located in Sonoma County, California, The Fort is a decent left-hand reef set-up that offers up a pretty gnarly, warpy, and unpredictable wave that can be a ledgy barrel at it’s best. Think a small, not as good, left-hand Shipsterns Bluff. The waves here are not for the faint-hearted and break for up to 100 meters over a shallow (repeat, shallow) rocky reef. Bring a first aid kit, the barnacles on the reef cut through wetsuits easily. The locals are not nice.
What are the best surf conditions for The Fort?
Gets good between chest-high and overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step-up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for advanced surfers. The surf here is not the most consistent (4/10) and will get busy when good (5/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Southwest Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing a 5/4 here year-round. Water temperatures range between 13 and 11 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
