Located in Sonoma County, California, Mystos is a decent reef break that offers up some rippable rights when the conditions line up. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a barnacle-covered rocky reef. The takeoff zone is small and the crowd is a bit standoffish, if you aren’t a local I would recommend not parking in the main lot.
What are the best surf conditions for Mystos?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step-up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here does not break very often (3/10) and will have a grumpy crew on it when it does (6/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the South or Southwest. Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 here in the summer. In the winter a 5/4 is best. Water temperatures range between 10-14. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
