Located in Sonoma County, California, the Russian Rivermouth is a good sandbar set up that offers up some heaving barrels when the sand, swell, and wind lines up (not often). The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a sand bottom. Also, this spot is basically Mcdonald’s for the big grey fellows. Keeps the crowds down I suppose.
What are the best surf conditions for the Russian Rivermouth?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here does not break often (3/10) and will have a crew when it does, don’t be rude and you’ll be fine (6/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest and Southwest. Works on a low to mid tide best usually.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 here in the summer. In the winter a 5/4 is best. Water temperatures range between 10-14. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
