Located in the Maldives, straight out in the front of the Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma, this long reeling right hander is fun at any size. Optimum conditions are 3-6ft on lower tides. There are two take off spots. The first is an easier option and the second has more critical take off. This wave breaks over relatively shallow reef for 100 meters and provides tubes and steep walls for carving. The crowds fluctuate, although because of max occupancy restrictions on the island, is never terrible. If you avoid the early session and paddle out when everyone has gone in to eat, you can easily find yourself sitting in an empty lineup.
What are the best surf conditions for Kandooma Right?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard then step up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the Northwest, Southwest, or West. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and Southeast. Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year round as water temperatures fluctuate between 27 and 29. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
