Located in the Male Atolls, Indian Ocean, Riptides breaks in the middle of a channel and is a quality right hand reef that offers up a long speedy wall perfect for performance manoeuvres or cruising. The most challenging part of surfing here is the current, be careful. The waves can be a bit tricky at times and break for up to 200 meters over a coral reef.
What are the best surf conditions for Riptides?
Gets good between chest high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard then step up as the size increases. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the West. The best swells are from the South or Southeast. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year round as water temperatures fluctuate between 29 and 27. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
