Located on the French side of the Channel, Surtainville is a fun beach break that offers up some good waves for turns and hacks. The waves here can be tricky to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Surtainville?
It gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when the waves are smaller and a shortboard when the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and can get busy on weekends and holidays (5/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the West. It works best on mid to high tide.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 16°C (61°F). In winter, a 4/3 will keep you warm again when water temperatures drop to 10°C (50°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
