Located on the French side of the Channel, Hatainville is a quality beach break that offers space for all levels and good canvases for carves and hacks. The waves here can be tricky, especially with size, and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom. Beginners should check out the boardwalk of Barneville for a more sheltered spot.
What are the best surf conditions for Hatainville?
It gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when the waves are smaller and a shortboard when the size steps up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and can get busy when conditions are good (5/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. It works best on mid to high tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 16°C (61°F). In winter, a 4/3 wetsuit is best when water temperatures drop to 10°C (50°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
