Located in Northern Baja, Mexico, Punta San Carlos is a fun right-hand point break that offers up some mellow, not hollow sections perfect for longboarders. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 200 meters over a rock and sand bottom. Although it doesn’t get hollow it can still be powerful at size.
What are the best surf conditions for Punta San Carlos?
Gets good between waist-high and overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller or bigger and a shortboard only if it’s big. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the North. The best swells are from the Southwest or West. Works on a low to mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 31 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best as water temperatures plunge to 16 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
