Located in Northern Baja, Mexico, K-181 is a stretch of reef and beach breaks that offer up highly rippable conditions when on. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a rock and sand bottom. The beaches are peaky, reefs can be shallow, and mostly empty: Have fun. Named because it is about 181 KM South of the US border.
What are the best surf conditions for K-181?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard then step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and will be uncrowded (2/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides, but maybe mid to high for the shallower reefs.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 31 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best as water temperatures plunge to 16 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
