Located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, Tamarindo is a town with a few breaks, one of which is a fun stretch of river mouth peaks offering up some rippable waves. The surf here can be a bit challenging depending on the size and the waves break for up to 100 meters over a sand bottom. Check out some nearby reefs and some straight hander beach break as well.
What are the best surf conditions for Tamarindo?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller or a shortboard when it gets bigger. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and will get very crowded (8/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, or West. Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 29 and 28. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
