Located in Central Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica, Rio Claro Rivermouth is an excellent left-hander that offers up powerful walls of water. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 150 meters over a sand bottom. Super remote, so free camping, but getting there is an absolute mission.
What are the best surf conditions for Rio Claro Rivermouth?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step-up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 29 and 28. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
