More on Drake’s Bay
Located in Central Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica, Drake’s Bay is a super remote bay with a few breaks, but the main attraction is an offshore reef that throws up rippable and barreling waves. The waves are challenging surf and break for up to 100 meters over a rock bottom. Accommodation here is expensive, think jungle resort-type stuff.
What are the best surf conditions for Drake’s Bay?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard or a step-up when the swell increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will usually have a crew (6/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
