Located in Central Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica, Punta Uvita is a whale tail-shaped point that shelters some fun beach breaks offering up rippable groomed waves and at times some barrels. The waves here are not the easiest to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a sand bottom. This is a national park and you’ll need to pay to park but this keeps the crowds down.
What are the best surf conditions for Punta Uvita?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the South and Southwest. Works through the tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 29 and 28. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
