Found on the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia, Pondie (or Pondalowie Bay) is an excellent beach/reef break over a rock and sandy bottom. Waves here can be challenging breaking for up to 100 meters, offering lovely sections for turns, carves, and airs. There is also beautiful campground on the bay for close accommodation.
What are the best surf conditions for Pondie?
Gets good between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend a shortboard for surfing here. Pondie has a couple breaks and areas, suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is consistent (7/10), but can get busy on weekends and holidays (5/10). The best winds are East to Southeast. It needs a good sized Southwest or West swell to wrap into the bay. It works best on lower to mid tides.
Water temps hold at around 17 degrees in February, so a 3/2 should be enough to keep you warm. In winter a 4/3 is needed for the chilly 14 degree water. See our temperature chart below for more data on this.
