Found on Kangaroo Island in Southern Australia, Pennington Bay is a fun, sheltered beach break. The waves here are pretty gentle and easy to surf, breaking for up to 100 meters providing opportunities for turns and even barrels on the right day.
What are the best surf conditions for Pellington Bay?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead, better on the smaller side as it tends to close out with more size. We recommend a shortboard here, but on small days a longboard or fish is also great. Pennington bay offers up conditions that suit all levels of surfers. The break is consistent (7/10) and usually uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are offshore from the North, and the best swells are from the South and Southwest. The beachies work on all tides depending on the banks of course.
A 3/2 wetsuit should be enough in the summer with temps holding at about 17 degrees in February. In winter with water temperatures dropping to 14 degrees, a 4/3 is best. See our temperature chat below for more data on this.
