Located just south of Adelaide, South Australia, The Trough is a fun left reef break over a rock and sand bottom. Some waves can be challenging, but offer 100 meter long walls for turns and carves.
What are the best surf conditions for The Trough?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend a shortboard to surf here. The Trough is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (7/10) but will get busy when it is good (5/10). The best winds are offshore from the Northeast, and it needs a higher tide to really start working. Best swells are large and from the South or Southwest.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in summer with water temps sitting around 17 degrees in February. In winter a 4/3 is the dress code as the water temps fall to around 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
