Located near Adelaide, South Australia, Chinamans is a quality left-hand reef break that explodes over a shallow, sharp, and rocky reef. The waves here are thick and heavy, breaking for up to 100 meters and providing deep barrels for those that make the steep drop.
What are the best surf conditions for Chinamans?
This spot gets good between waist-high to triple overhead. Ride your shortboard or step up when bigger here. Chinamans is best suited for intermediate or advanced surfers. There is a local crew that will let you know when you are out of line, so know what you are doing in a heavy lineup. The waves are pretty consistent (5/10), but when it is on the locals will be all over it (5/10). The best tides are low to medium, offshore winds come from the Northwest, and the best swells are from the South or Southwest.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer with temperatures hitting 17 degrees in February. In winter a 4/3 is the recommended attire with temps dropping to around 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
