Located in the West Coast District of South Africa, Skulpfontein Reef is a quality but ugly right-hand reef break that throws hard, forming a slabby barrel over shallow rock. The waves here are for the skilled, and most think it can’t be surfed; it’s popular with local bodyboarders. The waves break for up to 100 meters over that shallow rock bottom. Take care paddling out; make sure you time the sets.
