Located in the West Coast District of South Africa, Doring Bay is a fun left-hand reef break that offers up a solid, long left-hand barrel for those willing to brave the colder water. The waves here are heavy and break for up to 300 meters (984 ft) over a rock bottom on a good day.
What are the best surf conditions for Doring Bay?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Southwest. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in summers when water temperatures rise to 18°C (64.4°F). In the winter, a 4/3 might be best as temps drop to about 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
