Located in the West Coast District of South Africa, Olifants Rivermouth is a fun river mouth setup that offers up some peaky barrels very consistently. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 ft) over a sand bottom. This spot is SUPER SHARKY, and a go-to spot for fishermen to pull up big ones.
What are the best surf conditions for Olifants Rivermouth?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is super consistent (9/10) and will be empty (1/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Southwest and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in summers when water temperatures rise to 18°C (64.4°F). In the winter, a 4/3 might be best as temps drop to about 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
