Located in the West Coast District of South Africa, Eland’s Bay is a world-class left-hand point break that peels hard and barrels before shutting down onto the beach break. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 300 meters (984 ft) over a rock bottom. This spot is a regional classic and will get crowded when good.
What are the best surf conditions for Eland’s Bay?
Gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will get insanely crowded when on (9/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Southwest and West. Works best on a low to mid-tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in summers when water temperatures rise to 18°C (64.4°F). In the winter, a 4/3 might be best as temps drop to about 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
